Narrative Writing

Writing to tell a story

Scene 1-The Great Debaters

scene #1

Over the next six weeks we will be watching the Great Debaters. This movie will be broken down into 20 minute segments and you will be given the chance to work on your listening, speaking, and thinking skills with your peers. To get us started let’s review the following poem by Langston Hughes entitled I, Too presented in the opening scene.

I, Too
I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.

Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed–

I, too, am America.

Let’s discuss Imagery. What pictures does this poem paint? What feelings does it evoke?

Hello world!

Welcome Students!
I started this blog so we could have a fun way to practice our reading, writing, and thinking skills. I plan to post pictures, video clips, and writing prompts for you to respond to. I am excited about this school year and I hope you are too. Let’s turn up the heat!
